Why do we make fun of our myths and origin traditions?
One does not need to believe in them to see the richness of history and sophistication of thought. Today, Greek mythology is taught as Classics and respected worldwide at a scholarly level. Homer is virtually venerated by literature writers, and 'The Illiad' and 'The Odyssey' are considered some of the finest books written. Books that at heart, are just tales of Greek gods living and walking among men etc.
But we Africans will laugh and mock our own legends and myths?
We won't explore them, or see what they tell us about our societies and ancestors. Why?
We disrespect ourselves when we jeer and mock our own myths and legends, but study and respect Western myths.
